Meet the Founder
Matt Boyce is a seasoned golf superintendent, earned a bachelors degree from Penn State University, in Turfgrass Science and is a Certified Nutrient Management Planner. Before founding Greensward, Matt held positions at Pinehurst No. 2 and Princess Anne Country Club, which was just ranked as a top 25 course in the world. Managing two nationally recognized multi-million dollar golf course renovations and preparing courses for the U.S. Open and PGA Tour Championship play, gives Matt unparalleled experience and a foundation for his next chapter.
Matt is now focused on bringing his 25 years of experience of expertise, golf course preparation and management skills to his client’s lawns. When Matt isn’t maintaining Greensward’s high level of service, he enjoys fishing, watching college football and spending time with his wife and two girls.
The Story Behind the Name.
Greensward is a noun that means grass covered ground.
In the 1850’s, New York City officials were looking for a landscape architect to design what is now Central Park. After conducting a world-wide search, they awarded the project to, then grounds superintendent, Mr. Frederick Law Olmstead. The design was referred to as the Greensward Plan. After completing Central Park, Mr. Olmstead went on to design spaces for Stanford University, Yale University, the U.S. Capitol and the Biltmore Estate.
This story resonated with Matt not only by Mr. Olmstead’s accolades, but for his passion for developing maintaining and curating green spaces for people to enjoy. These same passions lead Matt to found Greensward and provide programs, environmental stewardship to greener lifestyles and lawns.
