Greensward is a noun that means grass covered ground.
In the 1850’s, New York City officials were looking for a landscape architect to design what is now know as Central Park. After conducting a world-wide search, they gave the project to, then grounds superintendent, Mr. Frederick Law Olmstead. Mr. OImstead developed a design for the green space which he referred to as the Greensward Plan. After completing a successful Central Park, Mr. Olmstead went on to design spaces such as Stanford University, Yale University, the U.S. Capitol and the Biltmore Estate.
Mr. Olmstead’s story resonated with me and I felt compelled to carry on using him as inspiration. We hope you see our passion for green spaces though our programs and environmental stewardship.
